What You Need to Know About the Evergreen Rodeo

Your insider guide to one of the best weekends of the Colorado mountain summer.

Every June, something shifts in Evergreen. The storefronts along Main Street get a little more festive, the traffic on 74 picks up, and you start hearing the unmistakable sound of boots on pavement. Father’s Day weekend belongs to the Evergreen Rodeo — and if you haven’t experienced it yet, consider this your official invitation.

For those of us who live up here, this isn’t just another event on the calendar. It’s one of those weekends that reminds you exactly why you chose mountain life in the first place.

The Weekend at a Glance

The Evergreen Rodeo is a full Father’s Day weekend affair, and the schedule rewards people who commit to the whole thing:

  • Friday, June 19 — Kick-Off Party at the rodeo grounds: live music, complimentary drink, cash bar, and a headline performance by Rapidgrass. VIP parking available. A great way to ease into the weekend.
  • Saturday, June 20 — Downtown parade at 10:00 a.m., followed by the evening rodeo performance at 7:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, June 21 — Afternoon rodeo performance at 2:00 p.m.

Start with the Parade — and Get There Early

If you’re only going to do one thing this weekend, make it the Saturday morning parade. It winds through the heart of downtown Evergreen starting promptly at 10:00 a.m. and wraps up around 12:30 p.m. near the intersection of Meadow Drive and Highway 74.

The operative word there is promptly. This parade does not wait. Grab your coffee, stake your spot on Main Street, and plan to arrive well before 10. The good viewing spots along the route go fast, especially as the event has grown in popularity over the years.

It’s one of those small-town moments that’s genuinely hard to find anywhere else — horses, riders, local groups, and community spirit all rolling through one of the most scenic main streets in Colorado. Bring the kids, bring the dog (leash required, obviously), and settle in.

The Rodeo Itself: What to Expect

The Evergreen Rodeo is a PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) sanctioned event, which means the competition is the real deal. You’ll see saddle bronc, bareback, bull riding, steer wrestling, tie-down roping, team roping, and barrel racing — plus mutton bustin’ for the little ones, which is always a crowd favorite. This year also features a Stick Horse Race for kids 3 and up, a fun new addition to the lineup.

Gates open at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday ahead of the evening performance. Come early — there’s a pre-show with pony rides, a mechanical bull, sno-cones, and an Old West show that’s worth arriving for. The rodeo itself has a small-town-meets-big-production energy that’s hard to describe until you’ve sat in that arena as the sun starts to drop behind the foothills.

Seating: Bleachers vs. The Hill

Here’s where we’ll give you the honest local take.

All seating is general admission — there are no assigned seats, no reserved sections. You pay your ticket, you find your spot. Bleacher seating is available inside the arena, and it fills up. If you want a bleacher spot with a clear sightline to the action, get there early.

But here’s the thing: the hill is better.

Bring a blanket, grab your food from the vendors inside the grounds, and claim your patch of grass on the hill above the bleachers. The view is great, the vibe is more relaxed, and you can spread out and actually enjoy yourself. This is how the locals do it. There’s something about watching bull riding with the Colorado sky above you and a mountain backdrop behind the arena that no bleacher seat can compete with.

Fair warnings before you go: no pets, no coolers, and no refunds. This is a rain-or-shine event, and Colorado weather in June means it could be 85 degrees and sunny or 55 and sideways — sometimes on the same afternoon. Layer up, bring sunscreen, and don’t be caught without a jacket in your car.

Parking: Don’t Stress It

Parking at a well-attended mountain event is the thing most people don’t think about until they’re already stuck on Stagecoach Boulevard. Plan ahead and you’ll be fine.

Free offsite parking is available at two locations with a free shuttle to the grounds:

  • Big R, 30931 Stagecoach Blvd.
  • Evergreen Medical Center, 30960 Stagecoach Blvd.

The shuttle is genuinely the move. You’ll avoid the post-show gridlock, and the shuttle drops you right at the gate.

On-site parking is available on the rodeo grounds for $10 per vehicle. It’s first come, first served, and it fills up. If you want to park on-site, arrive well before the gates open.

The rodeo grounds are located at 29830 Stagecoach Boulevard, Evergreen, CO 80439. If you’re coming from Denver, take I-70 West to Exit 252 (Evergreen Parkway / Highway 74) and head south.

A Few More Things Worth Knowing

  • Tickets can be purchased online through the Evergreen Rodeo website. Adult tickets start at $25 for adults and $15 for kids.
  • Food and drinks are available for purchase on the grounds. The former VIP area has been converted to a saloon open to all ticket holders — worth a visit.
  • No smoking anywhere on the rodeo grounds.
  • The Friday Kick-Off Party (6 – 9 PM) is a ticketed event separate from the weekend rodeo performances. Tickets are $35 and include admission, music, VIP parking, and one complimentary beverage.
